Disappointing. I was expecting more from this book. I felt the background story didn’t tie in. I did not see the love between Pearl and Charles. Patrick and Mel were ok but bland. Mel was just bland as a character. I didn’t really feel anything from her at all. Bella was so stereotypical I just rolled my eyes. All the characters stories were just so 2D no depth at all. And also, was anyone actually buried in the garden? I might has missed it because I didn’t really engage with this book. Please follow and like us:
Overall, I found this book was just ok. I loved the past stories and I lived how it showed the dynamic od the families. But I found the book didn’t have any feelings. It seemed very cold to me. I didn’t see the love between Posy and Freddie. I liked Tammy but Nick annoyed me as he was so whiney. Sam and Alice’s relationship, I thought had the most character and I liked how a bad relationship was portrayed. Should have left out Seb and showed how Alice as a strong woman dealt with it on her own though in my opinion. Posy – I liked reading her past story and life in Cambridge. Alice – Her struggles and story were so realistic. Tammy – She was my favourite. I felt for her. I also felt for Erin. The boys were just so weak and poorly written. I didn’t feel anything for any of them. So, in all the book was just ok for me. It’s not something I would re-read really.
I absolutely loved this book. It was one of those books that I could not put down and I had to finish it. I found the characters interesting, believable and with a personality. There were neither saccharine nor distant. The plot I felt was good and kept me intrigued until the end. I did guess what had happened, but I wanted to see how it would pan out. The book had just the right amount of story, mystery and emotions. I loved the ending as well. It was one of those rare books where none of the characters annoyed me. Amy, I felt was a reliable, believable character. Her story had tragedy but not pity. Aurelia, I loved her character, she was dramatic but loveable. She also had a weakness, but she didn’t let it slow her down and she did what she wanted. Again, no pity here. Mrs Rivertorp, I am such a fan of hers. I think she is one of those dragon type ladies but has a heart underneath. The ending was good, I loved how in the end the backstory story of Amy’s didn’t matter.
